by Jim Ragosta, Director of Digital Strategy & Sales

YouTube remains the #1 social media platform, and the #2 most visited website domain in the United States, only behind its parent company, Google. (SEMRush)

If you want to build your brand, it’s a safe bet that you should be on YouTube, whether that’s with a paid advertisement, or creating content and engaging with viewers. In this video, I’m going to walk you through how you can make the most of YouTube as part of your marketing strategy.

YouTube, it’s where you go to watch people fail, learn how to do the running man, indulge in reaction videos, and so much more. YouTube is a very diverse platform, and brings a variety of audiences together, which is why any brand can find success here. Remember when YouTube didn’t serve ads? I absolutely HATED when they switched to being an ad-supported platform, but their targeting of relevant ads to users has come a long way and now, being a digital marketer, it’s fantastic!

Effective Targeting

When advertising with YouTube, you have the ability to target by keywords, specific channels, varied affinity audiences, and much more. This allows for your brand to get in front of the people who matter most, as they are locked in and engaged, ready for the content thereafter. And, if you’re saying well I always skip those ads, there is a workaround for that, which is serving 15-second or 5-second bumper ads, as they are Non-skippable!

Identify Your Audience

According to Think by Google, 90% of people across the globe say that they discover new brands and products on YouTube. If I didn’t know any better, this sounds important. If you want to create video content, identify who your target audience is BEFORE creating the content. Don’t spend time making a video that will not be relevant to your target audience.

Brand Soul

You want to establish yourself and create consistency behind who you are, what you do, and why it matters, the 3 pillars of your Brand Soul. In order to get viewers and channel subscribers, you must give them what they are looking for, after all YouTube is really a search engine. And, BECAUSE it is a search engine, make sure your videos are optimized for SEO! Use keywords in your descriptions, video titles, tags, and so forth that are key in making your content searchable! Not only will it help your presence in YouTube, but also in Google Search!
